Cristiano Ronaldo Criticizes Erik ten Hag’s Approach, Urges Manchester United to Aim for Titles

Posted : 11 September 2024

Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed his dissatisfaction with Erik ten Hag's negative approach at Manchester United, suggesting that the manager should aim for the Premier League title despite the club needing a significant rebuild. The Portuguese forward, now with Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, had a fallout with Ten Hag before his departure from Old Trafford in late 2022. Ronaldo believes that while United require substantial changes, Ten Hag shouldn't shy away from targeting major trophies during the process.

Ten Hag, who has already won the League Cup and FA Cup in recent seasons, remains hopeful about securing more silverware. However, the Dutch manager previously stated that his team is still far from being capable of winning the Premier League, which United hasn't claimed since Sir Alex Ferguson's final season in 2013. Ronaldo disagrees with this cautious approach, arguing that the club should always be striving to win, regardless of its current state.

Speaking on the "Rio Ferdinand Presents" podcast, Ronaldo emphasized the need for a winning mentality, saying that United's coach should not dismiss the possibility of competing for top honours, even if the team is not at its peak. He believes that the club should be focused on trying to achieve the best results rather than lowering expectations.

Despite Manchester United's struggles, including a disappointing eighth-place finish last season and two losses in their first three matches of this campaign, Ronaldo remains optimistic about the club's future. He acknowledged that the team requires time to rebuild but is confident that changes within the club's structure and leadership are moving things in the right direction.
