Could Barcelona's new Samuel Eto'o be Gift Orban, Nigeria's upcoming star player?
Posted : 20 April 2023
Gift Orban, a 20-year-old Nigerian striker who has been illuminating the Belgian league since his debut in January 2023, is one such talent who has attracted the interest of many of Europe's top clubs.
And according to Sport, after Orban's brief but brilliant spell in Europe, Barcelona has entered the battle to recruit him.
Robert Lewandowski's long-term replacement is on the market for the dominant La Liga Spanish teams.
And this talented young striker, who many Barcelona supporters would compare to their Cameroonian hero Samuel Eto'o, could be moving to Camp Nou in the summer.
Gift Orban, a Nigerian-born football player, began his career with Bison FC before moving to Stabaek in Norway in 2022.
His strong performances in Norway, where he originally attracted the notice of European scouts, led to a January 2023 transfer to Gent in Belgium for a reported €3.3 million.
Many people consider Samuel Eto'o to be one of the best African players of all time.
He began his name at Mallorca, but he rose to legendary status with Barcelona, where he amassed 130 goals in 199 appearances while winning two La Liga championships and three Champions League crowns.
Although Orban is still far from emulating Eto'o's accomplishments, their playing styles are comparable.
Orban might be the answer for Barcelona, who are in need of a goal scorer badly. It remains to be seen whether he can advance to a team like Barcelona, and only time will tell if he can repeat Samuel Eto'o's success at the Camp Nou.
