Nigerian talent Akinkunmi Amoo, who made an impression with the Super Eagles in 2022, is currently undergoing training with Omonia Nicosia, a prominent team in the Cypriot First Division, as he eyes a potential transfer.
Omonia Nicosia, a club with a rich history in Cypriot football, having secured the league title 21 times and the Cypriot Cup 16 times, is known for attracting top talents and already has Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho on their payroll.
Amoo, widely regarded as the standout player from the Golden Eaglets class of 2019, initially joined Hammarby after his remarkable performances at the FIFA U17 World Cup. However, his career path took him to FC Copenhagen in January 2022, in a transfer deal worth approximately four million euros.
Unfortunately, Amoo's time at Copenhagen has been fraught with challenges, both on and off the field, as he has been plagued by recurring injuries.
The 21-year-old winger's potential was hampered by a knee ligament injury, severely limiting his appearances for the Danish champions. In the 2022-2023 season, he managed only two outings for the club, following just two games the previous season.
Determined to reignite his career, Amoo now seeks to impress Omonia Nicosia's manager, Sofronis Avgousti, during their training camp in Poland.
Amoo's connection to Omonia Nicosia stems from Jesper Jansson, the former director of football at Hammarby, who recently assumed the role of sporting director at the Cypriot club. Jansson recommended Amoo to Omonia Nicosia, drawing upon their previous collaboration.
While there is interest from an undisclosed Russian Premier League club, Amoo's preference lies in reuniting with Jansson at Omonia Nicosia, indicating his desire to work with someone who understands his abilities and potential.
