Come-back Kings, Remo Stars FC, suffocate Rivers United to dramatic stalemate

Posted : 05 June 2023
Come-back Kings, Remo Stars once again proved that they are not push-overs as last minutes goal rush forced a 2-2 draw against Rivers United FC.

Africa Sport Network (ASN) reports that the second match of the Match Day 2 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super 6 between Rivers United and Remo Stars was played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena (formerly Onikan Stadium), Lagos.

Goals from Rivers United Nyima Nwagua in the 16th minute, and a brace by Remo Stars FC's Lekan Adedayo in the 71st minute and four minutes extra time made the difference.

Rivers United in an uncommon fashion scored the last gap goal exactly one minute later, (95th minute), through Lukman Adefemi.

The Pride of Rivers got an early chance through Nwagua whose shot at goal from the edge of the box was saved by Remo Stars' Bankole Kayode.

The Stanley Eguma-led team came knocking again and were rewarded with a goal in the 16th minute through Nwagua who converted via a goal-mouth scramble.

The Sky Blue Stars could have gotten an equaliser in the 26th minute, but Andy Okpe's header went inches wide after a beautiful cross from Odunsi Oluwaseun.

Desperate in search of goals, Remo Stars completed many passes and dominated possessions throughout the first half, but no goal came, as Rivers United defence line was uncompromised.

Remo Stars made a double substitution when Premier Leagues's veteran Striker, Junior Lokosa was introduced to the game to replace Samuel Ankawe, while Olalekan Adams came in to replace Olalere Oluwasegun in the 56th minute.

Rivers United also made their substitution; Lukman Adefemi and Chiamaka Madu replaced Nyima Nwagua and Albert Korvah in the 68th minute.

Adams with his first touch of the game finds Lekan Dayo who fired past Rivers United goalkeeper, Victor Sochima in the 71st minute.

Remo Stars makes another substitution in the 80th minute as Akanni Qudus replaced Oluwaseun Odunsi, while Chiamaka Madu's effort hit the woodwork after receiving a pass from Mark Gibson in the 84th minute.

However, the last minute goal rush started with Remo Stars FC in the 4th minute after regulation time as substitute Adedayo Lekan sent the stadium into wild jubilations with his long range strike from the midfield.

Not done with goal scoring, Rivers United scored at the death of the final whistle in the 95th minute through Lukman Adefemi, which ended the well-contested match at 2-2.
