The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced that Nigeria’s U-20 girls, the Falconets, have fully recovered from their long trip to Colombia and are now ready to face their Australian counterparts in the first of two friendly matches organized for their preparation.
According to the NFF, this warm-up match is designed to ensure the team's readiness for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which will take place in Colombia from August 31 to September 22.
Coach Chris Danjuma and his staff, now including fitness trainer Chima Michael, have been conducting drills with the Falconets since Monday to prepare them for the clash with the Australians on Friday and for the World Cup finals in general.
The match against the Australians is scheduled for 10 a.m. Colombia time (4 p.m. Nigeria time) on Friday, at the Club Banco de la República in Bogotá. NFF’s FIFA Match Agent, Jairo Pachon, has assured thenff.com that all arrangements have been finalized for the encounter.
Danjuma’s squad, which includes players from the qualifiers, is now bolstered by the addition of several players who have previously represented the Nigeria senior team, the Super Falcons. These players include defenders Jumoke Alani, Rofiat Imuran, Comfort Folorunsho, and forwards Opeyemi Ajakaye, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, and Flourish Sabastine.
Folorunsho and Ajakaye were part of the Nigeria U-17 squad that finished in third place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India two years ago. Other members of that squad currently with the Falconets in Colombia are goalkeeper Faith Omilana and forward Aminat Omowunmi Bello.
While these players form the core of the team, exciting talents such as defender Shukurat Oladipo, Chioma Olise, captain Oluchi Ohaegbulam, and forward Juliet Akekoromowei provide a strong foundation for high expectations.
The Falconets will face Mexico in another friendly match at the same venue on Monday.
