Goals from Amina Bello, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, Flourish Sabastine, and substitute Joy Igbokwe against Venezuela in Cali secured a place in the Round of 16 for Nigeria, the two-time silver medalists, in the ongoing FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.
Bello scored the first goal in the 16th minute, finishing a cut-back from the relentless Okwuchukwu. Okwuchukwu then turned goalscorer herself in the 28th minute with a powerful header from a corner kick, making it 2-0 for Nigeria.
Okwuchukwu, who had scored Nigeria’s only goal in their 1-3 loss to Germany on Wednesday night, was again pivotal in added time of the first half. She assisted Flourish Sabastine with a pull-out pass, which Sabastine converted to extend Nigeria’s lead.
Substitute Joy Igbokwe completed the scoring in the fourth minute of added time, sealing a 4-0 victory and confirming the Falconets' advancement to the Round of 16.
This victory earned the Falconets six points and a +3 goal difference in their Group D campaign. Their Round of 16 match is scheduled to take place in Bogota on Thursday.
