Collins surpasses Schade as Brentford's priciest acquisition

Brentford's record of having Kevin Schade as their most expensive signing in history has come to an end with the recent transfer of Nathan Collins from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Super Eagles-eligible winger, Schade, who initially arrived on loan in the January transfer window before making the move permanent, held the distinction for a short while until Collins' arrival on Tuesday, July 4.
Collins, a two-cap Germany international, completed his permanent transfer to Brentford on June 12, with the club officially confirming his acquisition for an undisclosed fee, which has been rumored to be around €25 million.
The central defender's transfer has set a new club record for Brentford, although the specific details of the fee have not been disclosed by the club.
Renowned Italian transfer market expert, Fabrizio Romano, took to Twitter to report that Collins joined Brentford for a fee of 23 million pounds, equivalent to approximately €26.85 million.
This figure establishes Collins as the more expensive signing compared to Schade, with a difference of €1.85 million.
During his loan spell, Schade made nineteen appearances for Brentford in the latter half of last season, with his sole contribution in terms of goal involvement coming in a memorable 3-2 victory against Fulham.
Additionally, the 21-year-old German winger played a pivotal role in the German national team's campaign at the 2023 European U21 Championship, featuring in all matches and completing the full duration on the pitch for his birth country.
With Collins' arrival and the breaking of the club's previous record, Brentford fans eagerly await the performances and contributions the new signing will bring to the team as they look to make a mark in the upcoming season.
