Cole Palmer Makes Premier League History with Four Goals in Chelsea's 4-2 Win Over Brighton

Posted : 28 September 2024

Cole Palmer made Premier League history by scoring four goals in just 20 minutes during the first half, leading Chelsea to a 4-2 victory over Brighton on Saturday. The match started poorly for Chelsea, with Georginio Rutter capitalizing on defensive errors to net his first goal for Brighton. However, Palmer quickly turned the tide, becoming the first player in Premier League history to achieve four first-half goals.

The England international began his scoring spree by finishing off a pass from Nicolas Jackson to equalize. He then converted a penalty with confidence, showcasing his poise under pressure. Palmer’s hat-trick was completed with a stunning free-kick that curled perfectly into the top corner, highlighting his exceptional skill. Although Brighton managed to pull one back through Carlos Baleba, who scored after a mistake by Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, Palmer responded by firing another goal past Bart Verbruggen at the near post.

Palmer's remarkable first half could have been even more prolific; he hit the post and had another goal disallowed. Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who had previously coached Palmer at Manchester City, expressed pride in his development and emphasized that his character remains unchanged despite the historic achievement. He encouraged Palmer to maintain his ambition and hunger for more goals, noting that he had the potential to score even further.

The second half concluded without any additional goals, with Brighton unable to recover from the damage done in the first 45 minutes. This defeat marked Brighton's first under coach Fabian Hurzeler. Chelsea, on the other hand, has made a strong start to the season, gathering 13 points from their last 15 available since losing to Manchester City in the opener. Maresca reflected on the team's progress, stating that he was more focused on their development and style of play than solely on results, expressing satisfaction with how they have begun to execute their game plan.
