Coach Whyte eyes success with Bayelsa Queens

Posted : 05 August 2024

2024 Federation Cup-winning coach with Rivers United, Whyte Ogbonda, has set a big target with his new team, Bayelsa United, promising to improve on last season's performance.

Ogbonda made this pledge as Bayelsa Queens Football Club prepared to take the field in the upcoming Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, expressing his determination to surpass their achievements from the previous season.

In an interview after training at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on Monday, August 5, 2024, Whyte Ogbonda stated that the club is looking forward to making the state proud once again.

It should be noted that Bayelsa Queens finished third last season, behind Rivers Angels and the winners, Edo Queens.

According to Coach Whyte Ogbonda, technical and other necessary measures have been implemented to exceed last season’s achievements.

He mentioned that the team has been training tirelessly to ensure they secure a continental ticket at the end of the forthcoming season.

"We are aware of the high expectations for Bayelsa Queens, especially after the team came third in Africa two seasons ago. However, we are not feeling any pressure, and the government and management of the team have been very supportive," Coach Whyte said.

Coach Whyte Ogbonda took the opportunity to thank the Bayelsa State Government and the management of Bayelsa Queens for providing a conducive environment and support, while also praising the Bayelsa State Ministry of Sports for their preparations for the coming season.

He appealed to Bayelsans to support the Prosperity Girls through prayers and moral support.

"I want to thank the Bayelsa State Government and the board of Bayelsa Queens for their support and the freedom to work, which has made it easier for us. I also appreciate the Ministry for their efforts to ensure we are well-prepared," Coach Ogbonda added.

"I just want Bayelsans to keep praying for the team and continue supporting us. I assure them that we will give our 100 percent performance," Coach Ogbonda concluded.
