Christian Chigozie, a groundbreaking central defender, scored for Luton Town in their 1-1 draw against Watford during an U17 Professional Development League Cup match on Tuesday night. This goal highlighted Chigozie’s significant role in the team, marking another milestone in his promising career.
Last season, Chigozie made headlines as the youngest Hatter ever to be on the bench for a Premier League game while still a schoolboy. His notable achievement came as he sat on the bench during matches against Arsenal and Manchester City, even though he did not get to play in those games.
Recognized as one of the standout talents in Luton Town’s academy, Chigozie was called up to the senior squad for Championship fixtures against Burnley and Portsmouth this season. However, despite his potential, he has yet to make his debut and has only been an unused substitute.
In the match against Watford, Chigozie appeared to secure a victory for Luton Town when he scored in the 82nd minute, heading in a cross from Dylan Stitt. His goal initially put Luton Town in a strong position to win the game.
Unfortunately, Luton Town’s hopes were dashed as Watford equalized just three minutes before the final whistle, resulting in a 1-1 draw. This late goal prevented Luton from claiming all three points.
The Hatters U17s will be back in action on Saturday morning, facing league leaders Cheltenham in their next Youth Alliance match. The team will be eager to bounce back and make the most of this important fixture.
Chigozie’s performance continues to underline his potential and importance to the team, as he remains a key figure in Luton Town’s future aspirations.
