Christantus Uche dazzles again in Getafe’s dominant win

Posted : 07 April 2025

Young Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche was in scintillating form on Sunday as Getafe secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Real Valladolid in La Liga. The 21-year-old was at the heart of his team’s attacking brilliance, setting up two goals and playing a key role in a third during an explosive first-half performance.

In what has been an eye-catching debut season in Spain’s top tier, Uche once again proved why he’s being tipped as one of the continent’s emerging stars. His performance against Valladolid takes his season tally to three goals and five assists from 28 appearances — a remarkable return for a player in his first La Liga campaign.

Uche wasted no time making his presence felt. Within the opening minute, he provided a smart headed assist that allowed Mauro Arambarri to put Getafe ahead. Less than 20 minutes later, he was at it again — showing quick thinking and vision to thread a precise through-ball to Ramon Terrats, who doubled the lead with a composed finish.

Shortly before halftime, Uche’s technical flair was on full display once more. Holding off pressure from defenders, he executed a clever backheel that unleashed Juan Bernat down the flank. Bernat’s cutback was met by Terrats again for his second goal, capping off a first half completely dominated by Getafe.

Real Valladolid’s woes deepened just before the break as Mario Martín was sent off, reducing the visitors to ten men. With the game firmly in Getafe’s control, Uche was substituted just after the hour mark. Domingos Duarte rounded off the scoring with a fourth goal late in the match.

Although he didn’t play the full 90 minutes, Uche earned an impressive 8.0 SofaScore rating — the third-highest on the pitch behind Terrats and Duarte. His stats backed up the rating: two assists, two big chances created, two key passes, three tackles, six duels won, and multiple efforts on goal.

Born in Owerri, Uche was recently named in Nigeria’s provisional squad for the March World Cup qualifiers, narrowly missing the final cut. However, with performances like this, a call-up to the Super Eagles seems inevitable. Getafe will next welcome Las Palmas, and Uche will surely be one to watch once again.
