Chelsea's Super Eagles-eligible midfielder keeps Nigeria option open

Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has not ruled out the possibility of playing for Nigeria in the future.
Despite representing the English national team at youth levels and being part of their 2023 U20 World Cup squad, the 19-year-old, born to Nigerian parents in Austria, remains eligible to play for the Nigerian national team.
Chukwuemeka, compared to Paul Pogba earlier in his career, joined Chelsea last summer for a significant fee as one of the most promising teenagers in world football.
However, he struggled to secure a regular place in the squad as Chelsea had a disappointing 12th-place finish in the league.
Determined to regain his best form and secure a spot under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, Chukwuemeka has been featuring in all of Chelsea's pre-season games this summer.
When asked about the possibility of playing for Nigeria after Chelsea's 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund in a friendly game in Chicago, Chukwuemeka remained open to the idea, stating that he is currently focused on England, the country he has represented at youth level, but that he will see what the future holds.
If Chukwuemeka decides to switch allegiance to Nigeria, his football intelligence and physical attributes would be valuable assets to the Super Eagles squad, presenting an exciting prospect for Nigerian football.
