Chelsea Women 2- 0 Arsenal Women: Chelsea are within a point of Women's Super League champions if United loses
Posted : 21 May 2023
Chelsea's victory over Arsenal put them within striking distance of winning the Women's Super League championship for a fourth straight season, but they must wait to find out.
Chelsea will reclaim the title if Manchester United loses to rival Manchester City at 18:45 BST.
Guro Reiten and Magdalena Eriksson scored goals in the first half to give Emma Hayes' team a lead at Kingsmeadow.
They were worried when Sophie Ingle's handball gave Arsenal a penalty, but captain Katie McCabe pulled the shot wide from the spot.
Shortly after Caitlin Foord had glanced a shot onto the crossbar, there was Arsenal's chance to stage a comeback.
The stronghold of Kingsmeadow helped Chelsea hold on and earn their eleventh win in a row at home in the WSL this season.
Winger Reiten claimed the players would check in to see if they would win the championship, despite manager Hayes later stating she would not be watching the Manchester derby.
