Chelsea have completed the signing of goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal for £20.7 million on a seven-year deal. The 22-year-old Dane, who became Villarreal's first-choice goalkeeper last season with 37 appearances, expressed his excitement about joining Chelsea, describing it as a dream come true. Jorgensen looks forward to integrating with his new teammates and beginning his tenure at Stamford Bridge.
Jorgensen, born in Sweden but representing Denmark at the Under-21 level due to his paternal heritage, began his career with Villarreal at the age of 15. He advanced through the club’s youth ranks and made his senior debut for the B side in October 2020, later making his La Liga debut in January 2023. He has now joined Chelsea's pre-season tour in the United States, where he might have the opportunity to play in upcoming matches against Club America, Manchester City, or Real Madrid.
As Chelsea prepares for the new Premier League season, Jorgensen is expected to compete with Robert Sanchez for the number-one goalkeeper position. The Blues will kick off their Premier League campaign against champions Manchester City on August 18.
