Chelsea sign Rennes midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu for seven-year deal

Chelsea's new signing, Lesley Ugochukwu, who was acquired for 27 million euros (£23.2 million) from Rennes, might be sent on loan, according to manager Mauricio Pochettino. The 19-year-old midfielder has signed a seven-year deal, but his immediate future is yet to be determined.
Ugochukwu has an impressive record of 47 appearances in Ligue 1 for Rennes and has also showcased his skills in the Europa League. Pochettino stated that they will assess him during training and after the tour in London before deciding whether he will stay with the team or go on loan.
Although he has not made his senior debut for France, Ugochukwu has represented Les Bleus at under-17, under-18, and under-19 levels. Given Chelsea's recent majority stake acquisition in Strasbourg, there is a possibility he might return to Ligue 1 for the next season.
Chelsea's strategy involves signing young talents with future potential while trimming their squad following substantial spending in the previous transfer windows. Several players, such as Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount, N'Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Edouard Mendy, have either departed or joined other clubs.
Pochettino expressed contentment with Chelsea's summer recruitment, which includes additions like Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, and Brazilian youngster Angelo Gabriel. Despite having only one new player, Ugochukwu, joining the 29-man squad during the US tour, the manager remains optimistic and believes in the club's ongoing efforts to finalize the squad before the transfer window closes.
