Mason Mount, a player who has been strongly associated with Chelsea, recently stirred controversy among his former club's fans.
The midfielder, who spent his formative years at Chelsea's youth academy and made his senior debut for the club, has been acquired by Manchester United in a transfer worth around £65 million.
While the move to a rival club was initially met with some understanding, Mount's recent actions have caused dissatisfaction among Chelsea supporters.
Mount maintains a private YouTube channel where he shares videos related to his personal life and career. In a recent video, he documented his arrival at Old Trafford with his father, Tony, and their visit to the dressing room.
As they entered, Tony remarked, "Mason, this dressing room—it's home. Who would have thought you'd come here after I brought you here as a little boy." Agreeing with his father's sentiment, Mount responded, "I know, it's special, isn't it?"
This exchange triggered angry reactions from Chelsea fans, who had previously held Mount in high regard and considered him a part of their club.
Social media posts expressed the intention to boo him whenever he plays against Chelsea, with some fans feeling betrayed. They reminded Mount of the support they had given him throughout the previous season, accusing him of disregarding their loyalty.
During his time at Chelsea, Mason Mount played for a total of four seasons, making 129 Premier League appearances and scoring seven goals.
He contributed to the club's success in winning the UEFA Champions League in the 2020/21 season, as well as the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup the following year. He was honored as Chelsea's Player of the Year in consecutive seasons (2020/21 and 2021/22).
