Brentford triumphed at Stamford Bridge to bolster their ranking in the top 10 of the Premier League as Chelsea dropped their fifth straight match since the return of Frank Lampard.
In the first half, the visitors failed to register a shot on goal, but they took the lead midway through when Mathias Jorgensen's flick from a corner hit Cesar Azpilicueta on the shoulder and deflected into the goal.
Chelsea failed to produce chances once more, and some of the home fans booed the team as the first half came to a close.
After the break, the Blues did do better, primarily as a result of the arrival of striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who missed an overhead kick from a perilous position before hitting Brentford goalkeeper David Raya with a low shot.
However, they were unable to get an equalizer, and Brentford sealed an excellent victory late on when Bryan Mbeumo cut into the area and sent a shot into the goal.
Due to the loss, Chelsea is now in the bottom half of the standings, where they are currently in 11th place, eight points behind Brentford in ninth place and six points below Fulham in 10th.
