Chelsea hire former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino as their next manager

Mauricio Pochettino has been named Chelsea's next manager, effective with the 2023–24 season.
After a protracted search for a permanent replacement for Graham Potter, the Premier League team decided to sign the former Tottenham manager on a two-year contract with a club option for an additional year.
"The sporting team conducted a diligent and thoughtful process that the Board is proud of," said the club's owners in a statement on the Chelsea website.
"We are delighted that Mauricio will be joining Chelsea. Mauricio is a world-class coach with an outstanding track record. We are all looking forward to having him on board."
"Mauricio’s experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities and character will serve Chelsea Football Club well as we move forward," said co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.
"He is a winning coach, who has worked at the highest levels, in multiple leagues and languages. His ethos, tactical approach and commitment to development all made him the exceptional candidate."
Ever since leaving Paris Saint-Germain last year, Pochettino has been jobless.
After Graham Potter was fired in April, former Chelsea midfielder and manager Frank Lampard was appointed as interim manager until the end of the current campaign.
He was unable to turn around the team's downward spiral, and they ended up placing 12th in the Premier League.
