The Confederation of African Football Technical Study Group has unveiled the Best XI for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, featuring three standout Super Eagles players.
Chelsea-developed fullback Ola Aina, Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong, and dual national player Ademola Lookman were selected.
Ivory Coast's champions contributed Ghislan Konan, Jean Michael Seri, and Franck Kessie, while South Africa's bronze medalists were represented by goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and midfielder Teboho Mokoena.
The lineup also includes Yoane Wissa and Chancel Mbemba from DR Congo and Emilio Nsue from Equatorial Guinea.
Aina and Troost-Ekong earned their spots after helping Nigeria secure four consecutive clean sheets at AFCON, narrowly missing a fifth due to Mokoena's late penalty in the semifinal clash.
Troost-Ekong played the entire duration of all Super Eagles matches, scoring three times and receiving the Best Player award.
Aina showcased versatility but faced criticism for his final performance, notably in a duel with Brighton & Hove's Elephants winger Simon Adingra. Aina, a Nottingham Forest defender, played in all seven of Nigeria's AFCON games, receiving two cautions.
