Chelsea: Chelsea's top candidates include Mauricio Pochettino and Vincent Kompany
Posted : 23 April 2023
One of the candidates Chelsea has shortlisted for their new permanent head coach is Vincent Kompany.
The Premier League club is considering Burnley manager Kompany, Mauricio Pochettino, and one other undisclosed manager.
Julian Naglesmann, a former manager of Bayern Munich, is no longer a candidate to take over at Stamford Bridge.
The hiring process is being led by Chelsea's sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.
Graham Potter was fired by the Blues at the beginning of April, less than seven months into his tenure as manager, following a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa at home that dropped the team to 11th in the Premier League standings.
Then, until the conclusion of the season, Frank Lampard, the former Chelsea manager, was chosen as temporary manager.
In his first year as manager at Turf Moor, former Manchester City captain Kompany has guided Burnley to promotion from the Championship.
The 37-year-old Belgian has changed the team's playing style, producing beautiful, aggressive soccer that has won plaudits from both fans and players.
For Kompany, who managed just Anderlecht (2019–2022) before to his employment at Burnley, it would be a major step up.
Due to his strong campaign, Kompany has also been linked to the open Tottenham position.
