Chelsea buys majority stake in Strasbourg for €75 million

Chelsea's owners, BlueCo, have reached an agreement to acquire a majority stake in French club Strasbourg in Ligue 1.
The exact size of the stake remains undisclosed, but it has been reported that Chelsea will pay around €75 million (£65 million) for close to 100% ownership.
Strasbourg's club president, Marc Keller, described it as an important day for the club and expressed the need for investment to develop their ambitions.
BlueCo, the consortium led by Chairman Todd Boehly, who also purchased Chelsea in a £4.25 billion takeover, expressed their commitment to preserving Strasbourg's heritage and working closely with the existing management team.
They believe that this strategic investment would not only expand their presence in European football but also create opportunities for knowledge and expertise sharing between Strasbourg, Chelsea, and potentially other teams associated with the owners.
Both Chelsea and Strasbourg experienced challenging seasons in their respective leagues. Chelsea sacked two managers and finished 12th in the Premier League, their worst position in nearly three decades.
Similarly, Strasbourg struggled and finished 15th in Ligue 1 during the 2022-23 season. The acquisition by Chelsea's owners aims to bring financial stability and support to Strasbourg, enabling them to improve their performance and compete in the French top flight.
The deal signifies Chelsea's owners' belief in a multi-club model as a pathway for young players to gain experience and develop. With this investment, Strasbourg expects to strengthen their men's and women's teams, as well as their academy, while benefiting from advice and expertise from Chelsea and other clubs associated with BlueCo.
