Chelsea acquire €45m Axel Disasi from Monaco for defensive cover

Chelsea have completed the signing of France international defender Axel Disasi from Monaco on a six-year contract for a fee of 45m euros (£38.57m). The 25-year-old center-back provides crucial defensive cover for the team, especially after Wesley Fofana suffered a serious knee injury.
 
Having played in all 38 of Monaco's Ligue 1 games last season, Disasi brings valuable experience to Stamford Bridge. He has also represented France on four occasions, including featuring as a substitute in the 2022 World Cup final against Argentina.
 
"I am really proud to be able to be a part of this great family," Disasi expressed his excitement to join Chelsea. "I hope to achieve very big things here. To win titles. I will do everything I can to achieve those objectives. I am very ambitious."
 
As the sixth signing of the summer for Chelsea, Disasi will compete with fellow central defenders Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, and Levi Colwill for a starting position. Unfortunately, Benoit Badiashile is currently injured, and Fofana is expected to be out for several months due to his anterior cruciate ligament injury.
 
Disasi is eager to experience the atmosphere of the Premier League, stating, "I can't wait to feel the energy of the fans. The fervor of the fans in the Premier League, the atmosphere, the intensity of the games - it is something that excites me."
 
Chelsea's pre-season fixtures have concluded, and they are now preparing for their opening Premier League game against Liverpool on August 13. New manager Mauricio Pochettino has been actively shaping the squad, aiming to improve upon last season's 12th-place finish in the Premier League.
 
With several departures from the club this summer, including Mateo Kovacic, Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, and others, the addition of Axel Disasi will provide valuable reinforcement to the team's defense.
