Chelsea academy graduate Chibueze signs with Sunderland

Sunderland's official website has announced the acquisition of Kelechi Chibueze, a product of Chelsea's academy. Chibueze earned this opportunity with the Black Cats after a successful trial.

The 19-year-old footballer had been in search of a new club following his release from Leicester City at the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season when his contract expired.

Chibueze has inked a contract securing his presence at Sunderland until June 30, 2024, with the possibility of an additional season. While he will initially join the development squad, he remains eligible to feature in Championship matches if required.

His objective is to make his debut in the Premier League 2, as he previously served as an unused substitute in nine games during his time at the King Power Stadium.

Chibueze dedicated a decade of his youth to Chelsea, his childhood club, before embarking on a journey to Leicester City, where he signed his inaugural professional contract.

A former England U16 international, Chibueze amassed a total of nineteen appearances in the U18 Premier League, with one wearing Chelsea's colors and the remainder in Leicester City's jersey.
