Chelsea 6-0 Leicester City: Chelsea beat Leicester City, moves a point behind Women's Super League leader
Posted : 11 May 2023
With a game still to play, Chelsea crushed Leicester City to fall one point behind Women's Super League leaders Manchester United.
After 32 minutes, goals by Guro Reiten, Erin Cuthbert, and Pernille Harder gave the Blues a 3-0 lead.
Just before halftime, Denmark's Harder scored a second goal as Emma Hayes' team continued to establish their authority.
In the second half, goals from Lauren James and Jelena Cankovic completed the victory.
"I told the team that [being clinical] is something that's been lacking from us in the first part of the season," Hayes told reporters.
"We just haven't converted or created in the same way I know this team can do but we're doing it now, we're doing it at the right time of the season. Hopefully that continues for the remainder."
If Chelsea wins its next three games, including a critical matchup against London rivals Arsenal, who are currently in third position, they would clinch a fourth straight league championship.
There are only two games remaining for Manchester United, and the Blues have moved level on goal differential with the leaders thanks to 13 goals in crushing victories over Everton and Leicester.
In an effort to complete a Double, both teams will also square off in the FA Cup final on Sunday.
