Chelsea 2:2 Nottingham Forest: Chelsea having a miserable season
Posted : 13 May 2023
In a game that heated up in the second half, Taiwo Awoniyi scored twice as Nottingham Forest defeated Chelsea to earn a crucial point in their battle against Premier League relegation.
Awoniyi, who scored twice in Monday's 4-3 victory against Southampton, beat recalled Blues goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to head in Renan Lodi's cross to give Forest the early advantage.
After the interval, Raheem Sterling equalised the score by sweeping Trevoh Chalobah's cutback into his own goal. Seven minutes later, the English winger turned inside Felipe and beat Keylor Navas to the ball.
With two games left, Steve Cooper's team is now three points above third-place Leeds United after ending a record of seven straight league away losses.
Forest, who had only collected six of a possible 51 points on the road this season prior to the encounter, will play Arsenal at home the following Saturday and then travel to Crystal Palace on the last day of the season.
Chelsea, who have lost all seven of their home games in all competitions, are now in 11th place and have three of the top four teams still to play in the next week: Manchester City, Manchester United, and Newcastle United.
