Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick has disclosed that Nigerian forward Chuba Akpom's absence from pre-season is due to a knee injury.
Akpom was the standout player in the English Championship last season, scoring an impressive 28 goals, but unfortunately, his efforts were not enough to secure promotion for the club to the Premier League.
Given his outstanding performances, there have been rumors of interest from Premier League clubs such as Everton and Crystal Palace, suggesting a potential exit from Middlesbrough. However, no concrete offers have been presented yet.
Akpom's absence during pre-season has raised concerns, as Middlesbrough has already started their preparations, playing four games so far.
Carrick, the former Manchester United legend and current Middlesbrough boss, clarified that Akpom is dealing with a minor knee injury and hopes for a swift recovery.
Before the injury, Akpom was in good health, and he did not participate in international football during the break.
His contract with Middlesbrough is set to expire at the end of the upcoming season, leaving the possibility open for a potential departure if he doesn't extend his deal with the club.
