Carlo Ancelotti Set to Take Over Brazil National Team After Leaving Real Madrid

Posted : 29 April 2025

Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly agreed to take over as the head coach of the Brazilian national team, according to multiple Spanish media outlets. Although the Italian manager still has a year left on his contract with Real Madrid, his tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu is nearing its end after a disappointing season.

Real Madrid was knocked out of the Champions League by Arsenal in the quarterfinals and suffered a Copa del Rey defeat to rivals Barcelona, leading to speculation about Ancelotti's future. Following the loss to Barcelona, Ancelotti hinted that his future would be discussed in the coming weeks.

Reports indicate that Ancelotti is set to take over Brazil’s national team in time for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which begin in June. This would see him leave Real Madrid before the Club World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in the United States this summer.

Brazil made the decision to part ways with Dorival Junior after their heavy 4-1 loss to Argentina in March. Currently sitting fourth in the South American World Cup qualifiers, Brazil will look to Ancelotti to guide them back to the global stage in 2026.

Ancelotti has enjoyed a successful career at Real Madrid, including leading the club to a Champions League and La Liga double last season. He played a key role in the development of Brazilian stars Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes, and under his leadership, Madrid has won the Champions League three times.

Despite this success, Madrid's current form has been shaky, with defensive vulnerabilities that have left them trailing La Liga leaders Barcelona by four points. With a title defense as their only remaining hope for silverware, Ancelotti's future at the club seemed uncertain. His coaching resume also includes stints at AC Milan, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain.
