Carlo Ancelotti hopes Xabi Alonso will coach Real Madrid in the future

Carlo Ancelotti has expressed his hope that Xabi Alonso will one day become a coach for Real Madrid. Ancelotti's remarks come amid rumors linking Alonso, currently the head coach of Bayer Leverkusen, to the position following Real Madrid's 3-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Ancelotti has a strong belief in Alonso's football knowledge and praised his performance at Leverkusen, where they are second in the Bundesliga, level on points with Bayern Munich.

Ancelotti, who had Alonso as a player during his time at Real Madrid, including a five-year stint from 2009 to 2014, believes that former players like Alonso, Raul Gonzalez, and Alvaro Arbeloa aspire to coach Real Madrid.

Ancelotti expressed his support for their ambitions, stating that he knows and loves them all and hopes they can become Real Madrid coaches in the future.

Xabi Alonso had a distinguished playing career under renowned managers such as Rafa Benitez, Jose Mourinho, Ancelotti, and Pep Guardiola at Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.

After retiring, he began his coaching career at Real Madrid's academy before moving on to manage Real Sociedad's reserve team and subsequently taking the reins at Bayer Leverkusen in October 2022, where he achieved significant success.

Ancelotti faced criticism for his team selection and tactics following Real Madrid's recent loss to Atletico Madrid. He defended his position, acknowledging that criticism is part of the job when managing a club like Real Madrid.

He emphasized the need for a balanced evaluation of the team's performance and tactics and highlighted the challenges of adopting different formations, like the midfield diamond, to adapt to the team's strengths and weaknesses.

Despite the criticism, Ancelotti maintained confidence in his coaching approach and acknowledged the imperfections in any tactical system.

He explained that each formation has its weaknesses and strengths, and the midfield diamond, while offering pressing opportunities, can sometimes leave the team vulnerable to crosses into the box.

Ancelotti emphasized the importance of recognizing and addressing these weaknesses to improve the team's performance.
