Cameroon's national football team is on its way to Abidjan for the highly anticipated last-16 match against Nigeria in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Both teams secured their knockout spots as group runners-up, and the Félix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan will host this clash on Saturday, January 27, at 9 p.m. Interestingly, this stadium was witness to Nigeria's last group match victory against Guinea-Bissau, ending 1-0.
Unlike Nigeria, which stayed in Abidjan for all three group matches, Cameroon played two games in Yamoussoukro and the final match in Bouaké. For the upcoming encounter with Nigeria, the Indomitable Lions will travel from Bouaké to the capital, Abidjan, covering approximately 343.2 km, a journey of four-and-a-half hours by road.
Following their successful performance against Gambia, the Indomitable Lions resumed training in Bouaké on Wednesday. Departing early on Thursday morning, they will take a flight to Abidjan on the same day, ensuring sufficient time for preparation.
In a positive development for Cameroon, head coach Rigobert Song received encouraging news on the injury front. Star forward Vincent Aboubakar and Clinton Njie, previously sidelined, have made a full recovery. Aboubakar, who sustained an injury during training in Yamoussoukro just days before the tournament, is back after a ten-day absence. His return adds significant firepower to the team as they prepare for the crucial clash against Nigeria.
Vincent Aboubakar played a pivotal role in Cameroon's 2017 AFCON victory and was the top scorer in the 2021 edition. His comeback, along with Njie's recovery, strengthens Cameroon's lineup as they face a challenging encounter against Nigeria.
