The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set a July 11 date for the CAF Champions League preliminary fixtures, which will involve two Nigerian clubs: the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) winners, Rangers International FC of Enugu, and Remo Stars FC of Ikenne.
Despite being champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Rangers International will have to start their campaign in the Champions League from the preliminary round.
The Flying Antelopes dethroned the former champions Enyimba International with a game to spare, thereby qualifying for the Champions League alongside Remo Stars, who finished second.
The football body in Africa listed the clubs that will be exempted from the preliminary round, while the names of Rangers and Remo Stars were missing.
The clubs listed to avoid the earlier rounds are defending champions Al Ahly of Egypt, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, ES Tunis, TP Mazembe of DR Congo, and Petro De Luanda of Angola.
Meanwhile, the draw for the competition is slated to be held on Thursday in Cairo, Egypt.
