The Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Mr. Gbenga Elegbeleye, and the President of the Nigeria Pitch Awards, Mr. Shina Phillips, congratulated the winners of the CAF Football Awards, Victor Osimhen, Asisat Oshoala, and the Super Falcons of Nigeria on Tuesday.
Nigeria dominated the podium on Monday at the CAF Football Awards Gala night held at the Hotel Movenpick, Marrakech, Morocco.
Victor Osimhen, a 24-year-old Napoli FC striker, was crowned "Africa Footballer of the Year," breaking a 24-year drought since Kanu Nwankwo won it in 1999.
Barcelona FC Feminine striker, Asisat Oshola, won the Africa Footballer of the Year in the Women's category for a record sixth time, making her the most decorated woman in the history of African football.
Paris FC shot-stopper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, clinched the "Goalkeeper of the Year" in the Women's category.
Super Falcons of Nigeria, 11-time Women African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Champions, were crowned the Women National Football Team of the Year for their exploits in the last World Cup.
Gbenga Elegbeleye congratulated the winners and emphasized that the victory in Marrakech, Morocco, was a win for all Nigerians.
Shina Phillips also congratulated the winners, expressing that Osimhen and Oshoala's victories added to the integrity of the Pitch Awards, where they had also been honored.
Reflecting on the win, Phillips praised the college of voters for the Nigeria Pitch Awards, stating that their choices for Osimhen and Oshoala were unbiased and expertly made. He emphasized that the winners deserved the recognition and urged them to continue making significant impacts in the development of Nigerian football.
