Rivers United Technical Adviser, Stanley Eguma, has expressed optimism about his side's chances of advancing through the knockout stage of the ongoing CAF Confederation Cup despite the loss to Club Africain of Tunisia.
Eguma tipped his side to bounce back and secure a place at the expense of their Ghanaian counterparts, Dream FC, to qualify from the group stage.
Recall that Rivers United FC is the only Nigerian club remaining in the continental showpiece after the exits of Enyimba International FC, Remo Stars, and Bendel Insurance FC.
Eguma, in his reaction after Kingsley Eduwo scored two first-half goals as Club Africain defeated Rivers United 3-0 in their CAF Confederation Cup Matchday 3 encounter at the Stade de Rades in Tunis, stated that the team would come back stronger.
According to Eguma, the Pride of Rivers will go back and correct the mistakes from the game, emphasizing that his team gave a very good account of themselves.
"We are also a good team despite our undoing today. On a good day, we gave a very good account of ourselves, and I believe that the future is still bright for us.
"We can go back and correct our mistakes and come out stronger in subsequent matches, and before you know it, we will get there. I strongly believe that we will qualify from our group."
Meanwhile, Dreams FC of Ghana moved to the second position in Group C with 9 points after defeating Academica do Lobito of Angola 4-0 at home, completing a double over the Angolans.
Club Africain tops Group C with nine points from four games, while Rivers United dropped to the third position with six points following the defeat.
The Pride of Rivers will travel away to Academica do Lobito for their next game in February 2024, while Club Africain will visit Ghana for a clash with Dreams FC.
