Posted : 07 September 2023
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has granted approval for the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt to serve as Rivers United's home ground during the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Rivers United, the Nigerian champions for the 2022/23 season, had played all their group-stage matches in the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
However, CAF had previously prohibited Stanley Eguma's team from using their original home ground due to its failure to meet the required standards for hosting international matches.
After ensuring that the necessary requirements were met, the Pride of Rivers has received CAF's authorization to host the preliminary round in Port Harcourt.
The Nigerian representative in the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup is set to face Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso on September 17th in Burkina Faso for the qualification round to the group stage, followed by the second leg in Port Harcourt.
