Nigeria-eligible forward Nathan Butler-Oyedeji fell short of securing Arsenal's Goal of the Month award for February 2024. The Gunners officially announced that Declan Rice, a key midfielder in the first team, claimed the monthly accolade for his remarkable goal against his former club, West Ham United.
The list of nominees for the award comprised players such as Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz, Alessia Russo, Cloe Lacasse, and Osman Kamara. Butler-Oyedeji earned his nomination for the goal he scored in Arsenal's 4-2 victory against Southampton in the Premier League 2 on February 16.
During the match, just two minutes into play, the 21-year-old, who returned to Arsenal after spending the first half of the season on loan at Cheltenham Town, skillfully placed the ball into the top corner, seizing the opportunity as he spotted the Southampton goalkeeper out of position.
Despite his impressive effort, Butler-Oyedeji's goal did not secure a podium finish. Alessia Russo claimed second place for her headed goal against West Ham, while Cloe Lacasse secured third place for her precise shot against London City Lionesses.
In the current season, Butler-Oyedeji has featured in seven matches in the Premier League 2, scoring three goals. Despite his promising performances, the Hale End Academy graduate has not received a call-up to the first team since January 9, 2023, when he was a non-playing substitute in Arsenal's 3-0 victory against Oxford United in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup.
