Burnley Dominates Cardiff 5-0 in Scott Parker's Home Debut

Posted : 17 August 2024

Burnley delivered an emphatic 5-0 victory over Cardiff on Saturday, marking a strong start for Scott Parker in his first home game as manager. Building on their impressive 4-1 win at Luton in the season opener, Burnley showcased their Championship promotion credentials with a dominant performance at Turf Moor.

The scoring began with an own goal by Ethan Horvath in the ninth minute, followed by Luca Koleosho's strike. After the break, Josh Brownhill, Zeki Amdouni, and Johann Berg Gudmundsson added to the tally, underscoring Burnley's resolve to rebound from last season’s relegation under Parker’s predecessor, Vincent Kompany.

In contrast, Daniel Farke’s Leeds United continued to struggle, extending their winless run with a 0-0 draw at West Bromwich Albion. Leeds faced frustration from their supporters, who voiced their discontent as the team’s play lacked the usual attacking flair. Following last season's play-off final defeat and the departure of key players, Leeds have struggled to find form, drawing their previous games against West Brom and Portsmouth, and suffering a 3-0 League Cup loss to Middlesbrough. Farke acknowledged the fans' frustration, reflecting on the challenges of missing several influential players.

Queens Park Rangers (QPR) staged a comeback to draw 2-2 at Sheffield United, despite initially trailing by two goals. Gustavo Hamer and Kieffer Moore had given the Blades a strong start, but QPR responded in the second half with goals from Jimmy Dunne and Lyndon Dykes. The match saw a dramatic turn as QPR's Jack Colback was sent off with seven minutes remaining, but the team managed to secure the draw.
