West Ham United extended their unbeaten start in the Premier League with an impressive counter-attacking performance that stunned Brighton. The match saw James Ward-Prowse net his first goal for the Hammers.
This victory propelled West Ham to the top of the Premier League standings based on goal difference, although Manchester City and Liverpool have the opportunity to overtake them if they secure wins on Sunday.
James Ward-Prowse broke the deadlock in the 19th minute, capitalizing on Michail Antonio's excellent play to slot the ball home from close range. The lead was further extended in the 58th minute by Jarrod Bowen, who skillfully controlled Said Benrahma's cross and poked it into the corner of the net.
Despite Brighton's persistent possession and territorial control, West Ham's clinical efficiency shone through. In the 63rd minute, Bowen turned provider as he set up Michail Antonio, who expertly buried a shot into the corner, securing West Ham's third goal.
In the dying moments of the match, Pascal Gross managed to score a consolation goal for Brighton with a well-placed shot that found the far corner. However, Brighton's late surge wasn't enough to alter the course of the game, and David Moyes' team held on for the victory despite the pressure.
