Bryan Mbeumo’s retaken penalty and Kevin Schade’s header secured Brentford a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday, ending the hosts’ five-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League. Romain Esse’s late goal on his debut gave Palace hope, but they were unable to find an equaliser, leaving them four points behind 11th-placed Brentford in 12th. The result marked Palace's first defeat in over a month.
Both sides created opportunities in the first half, with Jean-Philippe Mateta testing Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken early, while Dean Henderson made an impressive save to deny Yoane Wissa. Palace came closest to breaking the deadlock in the second half when Eberechi Eze's free-kick deflected off the Brentford wall and struck the post.
However, Brentford capitalised moments later when VAR awarded a retake for Mbeumo’s penalty after encroachment by Palace players, which the Cameroonian forward converted to open the scoring.
Schade extended the visitors’ lead in the 80th minute, heading in Mikkel Damsgaard's cross despite a collision with Chris Richards.
Esse pulled one back for Palace in the 85th minute with a well-placed tap-in from Daniel Munoz’s pass, but Brentford held firm to claim the win. Brentford now look ahead to hosting Tottenham Hotspur, while Palace will travel to face Manchester United next Sunday.
