Brennan Johnson Set for Return as Tottenham Gears Up for Packed Schedule

Posted : 25 December 2024

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has expressed confidence that Brennan Johnson will eventually reclaim his spot in the starting line-up as the team navigates a congested fixture schedule. The 23-year-old winger had an impressive run earlier in the season, scoring six goals in nine Premier League appearances, but has recently been sidelined due to the strong form of teammate Dejan Kulusevski. Postecoglou emphasized the importance of balancing the team and managing player workloads, suggesting Johnson will see more playing time in the coming weeks.

Addressing reporters ahead of Tottenham's upcoming match against Nottingham Forest, Postecoglou noted the squad's need for rotation. He highlighted Kulusevski's recent contributions while reassuring that Johnson remains a vital part of the team.

“Brennan just needs to keep doing what he's doing,” the coach said, adding that the winger’s minutes will come as the team copes with its heavy schedule. The match against Forest follows a demoralizing 6-3 defeat to Liverpool, which has left Spurs in 11th place, eight points behind their upcoming opponents, who currently occupy fourth.

Postecoglou also acknowledged the challenges facing the team as they compete on multiple fronts, including the Europa League, League Cup, and FA Cup. He admitted the need for reinforcements in the January transfer window but cautioned about the complexities of securing quality signings mid-season.

“January is a bit tricky in terms of what sort of players you can bring in,” he explained, emphasizing the importance of finding players who can make an immediate impact. With no let-up in their schedule, Tottenham faces a critical period that will test their squad depth.

Providing an update on player availability, Postecoglou revealed there are no new injuries in the squad. Destiny Udogie, who was not fully fit against Liverpool, is expected to be available, while Rodrigo Bentancur will return after serving a suspension. As Spurs prepare to face Forest, Postecoglou’s focus remains on finding the right balance within the squad to navigate the challenges of a demanding campaign.
