The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced plans to resume the Brazilian Championship in early June, following a temporary suspension of matches due to severe flooding in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
Heavy rains since late April led to catastrophic flooding, claiming over 160 lives and leaving nearly 100 individuals missing, with more than 500,000 displaced. Consequently, teams in Rio Grande do Sul were unable to play, as stadiums, training centers, and airports suffered significant damage.
Initially suspended until May 27, matches involving the three Rio Grande do Sul teams were further postponed through consultation with the 20 clubs of the Brasileirao. The competition is now scheduled to recommence on June 1, including Rio Grande do Sul teams. Gremio will play Bragantino in Curitiba, while Internacional and Juventude are slated for away games in the seventh round.
In the eighth round, Internacional will face Criciuma, and Juventude will play in Caxias do Sul. A meeting of the technical council of Brazil's top division is planned for the following week to finalize arrangements for the championship.
