Brazil to support Vinicius Junior in anti-racism campaign by playing two African nations

Posted : 27 May 2023
On June 17, Guinea will play in Barcelona, and Senegal will play in Lisbon, two days later.

The 22-year-old Vinicius was subjected to racist slurs during a LaLiga match in Valencia on Sunday, the 10th such incident against the player that LaLiga has reported to prosecutors this season.

In response, the CBF has also launched a national campaign against racism in Brazilian league matches that will begin this weekend.

With the tagline "There is no game with racism," the CBF hopes to continue the fight that was begun in 2022 by its then-new president Ednaldo Rodrigues, who pushed for legislative changes that resulted in the Brazilian justice system and football authorities applying harsher sanctions against racism in stadiums.

According to reports, the CBF and Vinicius worked closely to iron out the specifics of the two friendly since they wanted to make sure the player was at ease with the games taking place in Iberia.

Because the CBF is still looking for a new national team manager, Brazil will once again be led by caretaker Ramon Menezes. Menezes will take a day off from coaching the Under-20s during the World Cup, which is currently taking place in Argentina, in order to reveal the team for the Barcelona and Lisbon friendlies on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro.
