Ary Borges of Brazil had a sensational performance, scoring a hat-trick to lead her team to a commanding 4-0 victory over tournament debutantes Panama in the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 Group F match in Adelaide.
From the start, Brazil, known as the Female Canaries, displayed dominance, consistently pressuring Panama and creating numerous scoring opportunities. They came close to opening the scoring within the first minute, but Adriana's shot was saved, and both Debinha and Bia Zaneratto missed the target.
The breakthrough finally came in the 19th minute when Ary Borges headed home at the back post. Luana's effort was denied by an excellent save from Panama's goalkeeper, Yenith Bailey, before Borges scored her second goal before halftime, converting a cross from Tamires.
In the second half, Brazil continued their relentless attack, and Zaneratto added a third goal, finishing a lay-off from Borges. The forward completed her hat-trick with a close-range header, leaving Panama with no chance for a comeback.
Despite making several substitutions in the second half to tighten their defense, Panama couldn't overturn the deficit, and the match ended in a 4-0 victory for Brazil.
Panama now faces a crucial match against Jamaica, where they must secure a win to keep their hopes of progressing in the tournament alive. On the other hand, Brazil's impressive start puts them in a strong position as they pursue their first-ever World Cup title.
