Posted : 27 October 2023
Heartland Queens forward Chinedu Gift Chinaka has expressed confidence that her team will aim for victory when they face defending champions FC Robo Queens on Match Day 3 of the Betsy Obaseki women's football tournament, having already qualified for the knockout stage.
The Owerri Landladies and FC Robo Queens both secured 6 points each by defeating Royal Queens and Fortress Ladies, which is enough to advance to the next stage.
Now, the last group game is essentially a dead rubber match, played for formality and bragging rights. However, Heartland Queens' prolific attacker Gift, who was voted the team's best player against Fortress Ladies, remains determined. Gift came on as a substitute but scored the second goal in her first appearance at the tournament against Fortress Ladies.
The experienced striker reiterated that there is no intention of backing down against the defending champions FC Robo Queens.
"As a team, we improve with every game, and we always ensure that the current game is better than the previous one. It's a work in progress, thanks to our coaching staff.
"We have already qualified for the knockout stage, but we are not resting on our laurels; we are going for an outright win. We are not thinking about the quarter-finals yet; our focus is on winning today's game. After that, we will consider the next stage," Gift said.
Heartland Queens will face FC Robo Queens.
