Bournemouth has completed the signing of Dutch forward Justin Kluivert from Roma in a deal reported to be worth £9.6 million. The 24-year-old has agreed to a long-term contract and becomes the first signing for Bournemouth under new manager Andoni Iraola.
Kluivert, who has earned two caps for the Netherlands national team, spent the previous season on loan at Valencia, where he scored eight goals in 29 appearances. His arrival at Bournemouth signifies the club's ambition, as stated by Chief Executive Neill Blake.
Blake emphasized Kluivert's exciting qualities as an attacking player who brings versatility to the team. With his pace, directness, and technical ability, Kluivert is known for his goal-scoring prowess. Despite his young age, he has accumulated valuable experience, having competed at the highest level in five different countries.
Justin Kluivert began his football journey in the youth system of Ajax, following in the footsteps of his father, the renowned former Ajax, Barcelona, and Newcastle striker Patrick Kluivert. In 2018, he made a move to Serie A club Roma but faced challenges in establishing himself in the Italian capital. Subsequently, he enjoyed loan spells at RB Leipzig, Nice, and in La Liga.
Bournemouth's newly-appointed head coach, Andoni Iraola, was eager to strengthen the team's attack ahead of the upcoming season. Last season, Dominic Solanke and midfielder Philip Billing led the club's goal-scoring charts with seven goals each.
Bournemouth will commence their 2023-24 Premier League campaign with a home match against West Ham on August 12th.
