Bournemouth has secured the signing of Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez from AZ Alkmaar for an undisclosed fee. The 19-year-old defender has committed to a long-term contract with the club, adding to their recent signings of Dutch forward Justin Kluivert and Lyon midfielder Romain Faivre.
Bournemouth's chief executive, Neill Blake, expressed his excitement about the new addition, praising Kerkez as an athletic and attacking full-back who will bring great potential to their squad. Despite being tracked by several European clubs, Kerkez was keen to join Bournemouth after learning about their ambitious plans for the future.
Kerkez's football journey began in AC Milan's youth set-up before he joined AZ in January 2022. In his first full season with the Eredivisie club, he made 52 appearances, scoring five goals and providing seven assists, contributing significantly to their fourth-place finish in the Dutch top flight. He also played a part in AZ's journey to the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League, where they faced a 3-1 aggregate defeat against West Ham.
Having earned eight senior caps for Hungary, Kerkez showcased his talent on the international stage with a standout performance in a 1-0 win against Germany in the Nations League.
Bournemouth, under the guidance of new manager Andoni Iraola, is preparing for their pre-season game against Southampton on Tuesday, with their first Premier League fixture set to take place at home against West Ham on 12 August.
