Bournemouth Secure Kepa Arrizabalaga on Season-Long Loan from Chelsea

Posted : 27 August 2024

Bournemouth have secured a season-long loan would end Bournemouth’s pursuit of Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale, and may prompt Mark Travers to leave the club before the transfer deadline on Friday.

As part of the arrangement, Kepa has extended his contract with Chelsea until 2026. His previous deal was set to expire in June 2025, which would have allowed him to leave the club on a free transfer after his loan spell with Bournemouth. Kepa, who remains the world's most expensive goalkeeper following his £71n move from Athletic Bilbao to Chelsea in 2018, has been training separately from the first team under manager Enzo Maresca, indicating his limited future at Stamford Bridge.

Last season, Kepa spent time on loan at Real Madrid, where he made 20 appearances as a stand-in for the injured Thibaut Courtois, helping the team secure La Liga and Champions League titles. Although Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was interested in bringing Kepa back, the move depended on Andriy Lunin's departure. Kepa also turned down a permanent move to Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia earlier this year.

In other transfer news, Chelsea have signed teenage Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders from Genk for £17m, though he will not join the club until next season. Additionally, Al-Ettifaq, managed by Steven Gerrard, is in advanced talks to sign versatile Chelsea attacker Harvey Vale, with an agreement largely in place, pending Vale's decision.
