Bournemouth manager doubts Solanke's chance for Premier League golden boot

Posted : 24 April 2024

Acknowledging the challenge, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola recognizes Dominic Solanke's tough road to securing the Premier League Golden Boot for the 2023-2024 season.

Solanke has showcased exceptional performance this season, netting eighteen goals in 33 Premier League matches, all as a starter.

Breaking records, the one-time England international now holds Bournemouth's single-season goal-scoring record, surpassing Joshua King's sixteen goals in the 2016-2017 campaign.

Despite his remarkable tally, Solanke trails behind Chelsea's Cole Palmer (20), Manchester City's Erling Haaland (20), and Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins (19) in the league's goal-scoring charts.

Integral to Bournemouth's pursuit of surpassing their club record points tally, Solanke's contributions have been significant throughout the season.

Ahead of their match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Iraola expressed satisfaction with Solanke's consistent form and performance, although acknowledging the stiff competition.

In Iraola's words, relayed by the BBC, he stated, "It’s going to be difficult because the other forwards are in great form, they are scoring goals but he will try for sure."

He emphasized Solanke's reliability and contribution to the team's success, underscoring the importance of points over personal achievements.

Solanke, the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup Golden Ball winner, has been a key figure for Bournemouth since joining in January 2019, amassing 76 goals and 31 assists in 211 appearances for the club.
