Bournemouth and Chelsea played out the Premier League's first goalless draw of the season, continuing their underwhelming starts to the campaign. Bournemouth, under Andoni Iraola, are yet to secure a league win, while Mauricio Pochettino's Chelsea has only one win in five league games.
Chelsea had the better chances in the match, with Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling hitting the woodwork, and Levi Colwill had a goal disallowed for offside. Despite these opportunities, Chelsea's new signing Cole Palmer missed a late chance to secure victory, shooting straight at Neto.
Bournemouth also had their chances to win, with Dominic Solanke forcing a save from Robert Sanchez and heading wide. However, both sides struggled with the final ball, and their strikers failed to capitalize on opportunities.
Chelsea, despite their expensive signings, had six substitutes with no Premier League experience, and academy product Conor Gallagher wore the captain's armband. The £100 million midfielder Moises Caicedo missed the game due to a knee injury.
Chelsea's best chance came when Mykhailo Mudryk, making his Premier League debut under Pochettino, found Jackson, who struck the post. Raheem Sterling, while not as electric as in previous weeks, had four shots that failed to test the goalkeeper.
Bournemouth's manager, Iraola, expressed satisfaction with his team's performance, considering it their best game so far. Despite the goalless draw, both teams had opportunities to win the match, but better finishing was needed. Chelsea currently sits in 14th place in the Premier League, and Pochettino acknowledged that they need to improve their finishing in the final third.
Iraola, who replaced Gary O'Neil as Bournemouth's manager, is yet to secure a win in his first five Premier League games, becoming only the second Spanish manager to do so, following Pepe Mel at West Brom in 2014. Bournemouth's last similar start without a win in their first five league games was in the 2008-09 season when they were in League Two. Despite their lack of victories, both teams showed promise in the match, with Bournemouth coming close to beating Chelsea.
