The result from a rescheduled Match Day 5 fixture between Enyimba International FC and the trailblazing Remo Stars was definitely what many could have seen coming. Although most pundits would have expected a tough match between the two, a straight win for the visitors was not anticipated.
On Wednesday, the borderless Sky Blue Stars emphatically expressed their desire to become the next powerhouse of Nigerian football as they took the battle to the home of the nine-time league champions, Enyimba International FC, defeating them.
It was a remarkable day for the Gbenga Ogunbodede side to come out of Aba unscathed and break a longstanding record set by Dakkada FC three years ago, making the defending champions suffer a home defeat in the rescheduled game.
The People’s Elephants seem to be on the ascendancy recently with back-to-back victories in the league. However, they were pegged back again by the visiting Sky Blues Boys, who proved too much for them at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.
The hosts dominated the game, but it was the away side that got the needed goal in the 34th minute through Samad Kadiri. All the efforts of the host to come back in the second half proved abortive as they lost the three points to Remo Stars.
With the win, Remo Stars now dislodged Doma United FC from the second position on the log with 19 points, having secured six wins, one draw, and three losses.
