Nigerian striker Victor Boniface made an impressive debut for Bayer Leverkusen, scoring his first goal for the club in a commanding 4-0 victory over West Ham during a pre-season match.
Leverkusen secured his services from Royale Union SG in a €20.5 million transfer, and the 22-year-old arrived in Germany with high expectations, having showcased his scoring prowess in Belgium with 17 goals and 12 assists in 51 appearances for Royale Union SG.
Coach Xabi Alonso entrusted Boniface with the responsibility of leading the attack against West Ham, and he didn't disappoint.
Leverkusen swiftly gained a 2-0 lead within 24 minutes, with goals from Jonas Hoffman and a Thilo Kehrer own goal.
Boniface seized his moment in the 34th minute when Florian Wirtz played a perfectly timed pass to set him up for a powerful finish into the left side of the net.
Although Robert Andrich added another goal in the 70th minute, Boniface had already made his mark and was substituted for Adam Hlozek.
His debut goal was a promising sign for Leverkusen, as they prepare for the upcoming Bundesliga season and a crucial match against Leipzig. Before the league starts, they will face Teutonia Ottensen in the DFB Pokal.
