2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 31: Akwa United boss, Boboye demands more sacrifice from players after commanding display over Niger Tornadoes

Posted : 29 March 2025

Akwa United FC Technical Adviser, Kennedy Boboye, has called for more reaction from his players despite the commanding 2-0 win over Niger Tornadoes in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 31.

While he congratulated his players for their brave fight, Boboye commended them for adapting to his style of play and following his instructions in the 2-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes.

Akwa United moved out of the red zone on the NPFL table and extended their unbeaten run in the league to five matches after an emphatic 2-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes on Match Day 31, which took place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

The Promise Keepers took the lead in the 44th minute of the first half when Ifeanyi Oloye accidentally headed Etiene Asuquo's long throw-in into his own net. Substitute striker Abson Mare sealed the game in the second half with a precise finish to secure all three points for the 2021 league champions.

Boboye, in his post-match reaction, also revealed that his team still has a lot of work to do in the remaining seven matches to ensure they secure their NPFL status for the next football season.

"I really want to congratulate my players; they played with great determination and commitment. You can see that the confidence level is very high, and we want to maintain that in all the remaining matches.

"We are not yet done with the season. This result has taken us out of the drop zone, and we still have seven matches to play before the end of the season.

"Our target is to ensure we go for maximum points in each of the remaining matches. We have to fight for every available point at home and away because that is the only way we can achieve our target."

The win propelled the Promise Keepers to 16th position on the log with 37 points from 31 matches, stretching their unbeaten run to four victories and one draw in their last five league games, scoring eight times while conceding just one goal.

Akwa United will next be in action on Wednesday, April 2nd, when they will face Mighty Jets Feeders in the President Federation Cup Round 32 match in Kogi State before traveling to Lafia next weekend to play Nasarawa United on Match Day 32.
